Badminton in Wisconsin

On January 12, 2000, the Wisconsin State Journal featured badminton on the front page of the Breakaway section.

MSCR badminton for adults

Madison School Community Recreation has a program in badminton at

  • Memorial High School (6 courts) on Monday nights (7:30 to 9:30). Memorial is at 201 S. Gammon, near Westowne shopping center.
  • East High School (8 courts) on Monday nights (7:15 to 9:15). East High is at 2222 E. Washington.  Supervisor is Gilbert Melendrez.
  • East High School (8 courts) on Wednesday nights (7:15 to 9:15).  This badminton program was founded in 1979 by Paul Malischke and Ken Vogel.  Ken Vogel is the current supervisor.  This is the 26th anniversary of East side badminton!

Plastic shuttles and some rackets are provided.  You should be at least 18 years of age, although exceptions might be made by the supervisor.
Registration for each location is separate.  Advance registration ends December 16.  There may be an additional charge for non-residents.  Phone MSCR at 204-3026 for more information.  Registrations are accepted at the first class if space is available.  If you wish to join mid-season, call 204-3026.

Badminton for High School or Middle School Students

  • Hamilton Middle School has an after-school badminton club.  Contact Pam Woodruff.
  • The Triple B Badminton Club was active approximately 1995 to 2000.  Members participated in many Midwest tournaments, and also the national junior championships. Contact Coach Fred Coleman at 238-9258.
  • On March 11, 2000, there was a tournament for Madison middle school students and high school students at Memorial High School. This was the 5th annual tournament, and the first one including high school students.  There have not been any events since then.
